Applies to eteachers.lk and all related services
1. Who we are
eteachers ("we", "us", "the platform") operates eteachers.lk, an online directory that
connects students in Sri Lanka with teachers, nurseries and course providers. We are the
controller of the personal data described in this policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — name, email address, phone number and password. Passwords are stored in hashed form and are never readable by us.
- Teacher profile — qualifications, subjects taught, tagline, description, photo, district and city, and WhatsApp or contact numbers you choose to publish.
- Class listings — subject, grade or level, schedule, fees, delivery mode and location.
- Payment records — invoices raised for listings, and any payment receipt you upload for verification. We do not collect or store card numbers.
- Messages — anything you send us through contact or support forms.
Information collected automatically
- Usage data — pages viewed, referring page, and the time of each visit.
- Device and connection data — IP address, browser type and operating system.
- Account activity — sign-in events and significant account actions, retained for security and support purposes.
3. Signing in with Google
You may create an account or sign in using the Continue with Google button.
If you do, Google confirms your identity to us and shares only your
name, email address and profile picture.
- We never receive, see or store your Google password.
- We cannot read your Gmail, Drive, Contacts or Calendar, and we do not request access to them.
- We cannot post or act on your behalf in any Google service.
- You can disconnect eteachers at any time from your Google Account under Security → Your connections to third-party apps. Your eteachers account will remain, and you can continue using it by setting a password.
4. How we use your information
- To create and operate your account.
- To publish your teacher profile and class listings so students can find you.
- To raise invoices and confirm payment for listings.
- To send service messages such as account confirmation, listing status updates, invoice notices and password resets.
- To review listings before they go live, and to detect misuse or fraud.
- To understand which parts of the site are used, so we can improve them.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
5. What is shown publicly
Some information is public by design, because the platform exists to help students find
teachers. Once a listing is approved, the following may be visible to anyone:
- Your display name, photo, tagline, qualifications and description
- Subjects, grades and the classes you offer
- Your district and city (not your full street address unless you enter one)
- Any phone or WhatsApp number you choose to publish for student contact
Your email address, password and payment records are never shown publicly.
You can edit or remove published details at any time from your profile.
6. Sharing with others
We share personal data only in these situations:
- Service providers — hosting, email delivery and payment processing partners, who may only use the data to provide that service to us.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to disclose by law, court order or a lawful request from a public authority.
- Protecting the platform — where disclosure is necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, or a threat to the safety of any person.
- Business transfer — if the platform is sold or merged, data may transfer to the new owner under the same protections.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies:
- Essential cookies keep you signed in and protect forms against cross-site request forgery. The site cannot work without these.
- Preference cookies remember choices such as your language selection.
- Analytics tell us which pages are visited and how often, in aggregate.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but essential cookies are
required to sign in.
8. How long we keep data
- Account and profile data — while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you return.
- Invoices and payment records — retained as required for accounting and tax purposes.
- Activity and page-view logs — retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
You can ask us to delete your account and we will do so, apart from records we are legally required to keep.
9. Your rights
You may ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date
- Delete your account and associated data
- Stop sending you non-essential email
- Restrict or object to a particular use of your data
Most details can be changed yourself from your profile. For anything else, contact us
using the details below. We aim to respond within 30 days.
10. Security
Traffic to the site is encrypted using HTTPS, passwords are hashed, and administrative
access is restricted. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to
protect your information and will notify affected users if a breach occurs that is likely
to put them at risk.
11. Children
Accounts are intended for users aged 16 and over. A parent or guardian should create and
manage the account where a younger student is involved. If we learn that we hold data for
a child under 16 without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last
changed, and we will notify you of significant changes by email or through a notice on
the site.
